Start-up of U400M isochronous cyclotron

At the end of the eighties the decision was taken to reconstruct entirely U300 classic cyclotron. The main idea was to extend the magnet pole diameter up to 400 cm and to introduce the axial injection of heavy ions from the ECR-source.

The reconstruction was started in 1989, and in May 1991 a ⁴He beam of 30MeV/n was produced at U400M cyclotron. During the years 1992-1994 a branched system of beam lines with all necessary diagnostic and control facilities was created. A number of new experimental setups were connected to these beam lines.
