Exhibition to the 500th anniversary of Pieter Bruegel the Elder at FLNR

On February 12, 2025 the grand opening of the exhibition of reproductions of Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s paintings dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the outstanding artist’s birth took place at FLNR JINR. The exhibition presents 12 works painted in the middle of the 16th century – in the heyday of the national Dutch painting. The idea of the exhibition and the curatorial work were of Academician Yu.Ts.Oganessian, Scientific Leader of FLNR.

Addressing the guests of the event Academician Yu.Ts.Oganessian told about Pieter Bruegel and the epoch in which the Flemish painter lived and worked.

There are 12 reproductions of masterpieces by Pieter Bruegel the Elder at the FLNR exhibition. The originals are kept within the walls of the Vienna Museum of Art History (Austria). Among them there are such notable works for world culture as “The Tower of Babel” (1563), “The Hunters in the Snow” (1565) and “Children’s Games” (1560). Each work is not just a plot but a real mirror of the epoch, where myths and reality, work and celebration, the beauty of nature and the modesty of everyday life are intertwined.
