Experiments for studying physical and chemical properties of SHE at FLNR: status and plans

On June 19-20, 2025 the The 61st session of the Program Advisory Committee for Nuclear Physics was held at the JINR International Conference Hall.

Andrei Isaev, Head of VASSILISSA group spoke about the status and plans for experiments to study physical and chemical properties of SHE at FLNR.

In 2025 a four-week experiment for studying chemical properties of flerovium (Fl) and copernicium (Cn) isotopes was completed at the SHE Factory. The work was carried out using the gas chromothermatography method on the new “Cryodetector” setup, located in the focal plane of the GRAND separator. Preliminary data analysis confirmed the high efficiency of the setup and its readiness for long-term experiments.

During the last experiment we got six flerovium decay chains, which is a significant success. In future it’s planned to conduct a detailed study of this isotope chemistry and continuation of the program for studying superheavy nuclei.

To increase the efficiency of these experiments a new GASSOL separator was developed on the basis of superconducting gas-filled solenoid. Production of its magnetic system is in the final stage. At the same time, work to prepare one of the SHE Factory halls to install this separator is under way.

At present, test offline measurements on a gas catcher are being carried out at FLNR and work to create design documentation for elements of a multi-reflection time-of-flight mass-spectrometer (MR-TOF) for precision measurement of SHE masses which is one of the key SHE problems continues.
