International Conference “Heaviest nuclei and atoms” in Yerevan
The Conference started at the National Academy of Sciences of Republic of Armenia, Yerevan on April 25-30, 2023 . The event is timed to the 90th anniversary of Yuri Oganessian, the world-famous scientist of Armenian descent, academician of the RAS, Scientific Leader of FLNR JINR, foreign member of the NAS RA.
Yuri Oganessian, Ashot Saghyan, president of the NAS RA and Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, rector of Yerevan state university are the co-chairs of the Conference.
Opening the Conference Yuri Oganessian presented the results of his many years of scientific activity touching upon some nuclear physics challenges and the history of SHE synthesis. In his report Academician Yuri Oganessian gave an overview of the events in the field of heavy ion physics and in the life of Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions for the past several years.
Jubilee conference brought together famous scientists from leading universities and scientific centers of the world such as such as the University of Notre Dame in the USA, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, the University of Naples, the GSI Centre in Germany, iThemba Labs in South Africa, the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Poland, Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, Tel Aviv University in Israel, scientific centers in Russia.
During the five-day conference the participants will present the results of their research on synthesis and study of physical and chemical properties of superheavy elements. The conference is jointly organized by by the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Yerevan State University and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).
