One more darmstadtium isotope was synthesized at the SHE Factory
On February 27, 2023 the unknown before 275Ds isotope was observed during FLNR SHE Factory’s experiments.
Alexander Karpov, FLNR Scientific secretary explained that 275Ds nucleus was produced at SHE Factory DGFRS-II separator in the interaction of calcium-48 beam with thorium-232 target material. The main purpose of the experiment was to prepare for the future synthesis of chemical element 120.
Darmstadtium isotopes were successfully synthesized for the first time in 48Ca – 232Th reaction at FLNR SHE Factory in 2022. As a result three unknown before isotopes were discovered at once: darmstadtium-276, hassium-272 and siborgium-268. In 2023 the experiment was continued at higher beam energy. It resulted in one event of darmstadtium-276 and one event of darmstadtium-275.
New darmstadtium-275 isotope experienced alpha decay producing hassium-271. 275Ds half-life was 60 microsecs. The study of this reaction will be continued.
