Production of 287,288Mc isotopes in the 48Ca+243Am reaction at China Accelerator Facility for Superheavy Element
(Candidate for the JINR Postdoctoral Programme 2026)

Element 115 (Mc) was first synthesized by FLNR in 2004. To date, more than 200 decay chains have been reported in total by FLNR, GSI, and LBNL. To investigate superheavy elements (SHE) beyond element 118 (Og), the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), constructed a new facility named CAFE2 for this purpose. Prior to the new SHE experiment, the synthesis of element Mc was carried out as a validation experiment to test the capability of the new separator. This seminar will introduce the experimental setup and results of the Mc experiment. From 2023 to 2025, three runs of Mc experiments were conducted using beam energies ranging from 235 to 248.4 MeV. Twenty decay chains of 288Mc and one decay chain of 287Mc were detected totally. Due to the various beam energies used, the excitation function of the 3n reaction channel was also measured. The decay properties of 288,287Mc and their decay descendants are in good agreement with literature values. Besides the known data, the clue of isomer state were observed between the implantation and alpha decay of 288Mc. The successful repeat experiment confirmed the capability of SHANS2 in the superheavy region and encourages future searches for new SHE elements.
