The Laboratory of nuclear reactions was founded on May 20, 1957
In May 1957 the 2nd session of the JINR Scientific Council reached a decision to found the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (LNR) with a special-purpose cyclotron for heavy ion research as a basic facility. Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Science G.N. Flerov was appointed Director of the Laboratory.
